The body’s response to low levels of oxygen may treat mitochondrial disease, study finds

“Our study has deep implications for understanding mitochondrial pathogenesis. It suggests that altered oxygen signaling or toxicity lies at the heart of these disorders. Mitochondrial dysfunction also accompanies aging and aging-related degenerative diseases, so it’ll be interesting to see whether hypoxia alleviates pathology in these more common conditions.”
